Winter Break
Our last day of the first term will be Friday, 19th December. We will have an early dismissal, finishing at 12.00 that day. School will re-open on Monday, 5th January.
Parent-Teacher Meetings
Many thanks to everyone for attending the parent-teacher meetings. If at any time in the future you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to let us know.
Scholastic Book Order
Please ensure that we have all the book orders by Wednesday morning at the latest.
Letter Sounds
Every child received a plastic envelope with the letter sounds we have learned so far (12 letters in all). Consonants are square and vowel sounds are round. At first it would be a good idea to practice identifying the individual sounds (remember, we are using their sounds rather than their names). Once your child can identify the different sounds, you can begin to form words through blending as we demonstrated at the parent-teacher meetings. Start with consonant-vowel-consonant words such as cat, pin or set. A few minutes each day would be very helpful. Let us know if you have any questions.
Winter Clothing
Please ensure your child has a warm coat, hat, scarf and gloves as we will go outside unless it is raining. Be sure these items are labeled with your child’s name or initials. It would also help to practice getting dressed for cold weather (especially zips) to build independence.
In the Aistear room we’ve been experimenting with cloud dough. One group made a snowman.
Gaeilge
We learned some vocabulary related to different rooms in the house this past week.
leaba (lya-buh) – bed lampa (lam-puh) – lamp
vardrús (var-droos) – wardrobe doirteal (dur-tull) – sink
leithreas (lye-hu-russ) – toilet folcadán (full-cu-dawn) – bathtub
