We are proud to be recognised as a UNICEF Child Rights School!
We have successfully achieved UNICEF’s Ireland’s Silver Award for our child rights work at Knocknacarra Educate Together NS.
We achieved the award in 2024 and we are extremely proud of our whole school community. We achieved the bronze award in 2023. We are currently working on achieving the GOLD award.
What is the Rights Schools Award?
UNICEF Ireland’s Rights Schools Award recognises a school’s achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into practice within the school and wider school community.
By working towards achieving the Gold standard of the UNICEF Ireland Rights Schools Award, we aim to ensure that every child at Knocknacarra Educate Together National School can enjoy their rights and reach their full potential in a caring and nurturing environment.
Our Student Council/Child’s Rights Committee are proud to play a crucial role in continuing to embed our UNICEF Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) Silver standard into every aspect of school life.

What does it look like in practice?
A Child Rights School not only teaches about children’s rights but also models rights in action as well as respect in all its relationships: between teachers/adults and pupils, between adults and between pupils.
Teachers, staff and other adults who work in our school community are aware of their role as duty bearers, to ensure that all children know about and can access their rights as defined in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).
Lessons exploring specific Children’s Rights are common in each of our classrooms. This aligns very closely with our Learn Together curriculum.
