Industrial Action Update
As you are probably aware from ongoing media reports, public sector unions are continuing to engage in industrial action. All public sector unions have announced a strike on Thursday, 12th November. If this strike goes ahead, the school will be closed.
Further union directives will have additional impacts. From Monday, 16th November, any supervision provided before the official start time will no longer be in place. For our school, the usual supervision in the yard from 8.40 to 8.50 in the morning will cease while the directive is in place. From that Monday onwards, children should not enter the school grounds, unless attending Breakfast Club, before 8.50, and they will go directly to their classrooms. Additionally, some extracurricular events taking place outside of the regular school day may be cancelled, and parents of children who this will affect will be contacted via email.
School Photos
County Photos will be at school on Wednesday, 11th November to take class and individual photos.
Irish Language Support for Parents
The Department of Education and Youth has launched an excellent website for parents related to Irish. The website is called irishforparents.ie/. This portal gathers sites and resources for parents to support them and their children to engage with Irish. The resources are directed at parents who have no personal experience with Irish as well as those who have more aptitude with the language.
Community Club
Members of the Friday Community Club have been doing various things to help our school community. Yesterday, they gathered litter on the school grounds as well as in the neighbourhood. On previous weeks, they cleaned the gym mats, organised the school libraries, worked on the developing sensory garden and assisted with checking computers to be sure they are working. Well done to this group for their efforts!
Admissions for the 2027-2028 School Year
A reminder that the admissions window to enrol children for the new academic year is now open. Children with siblings who are currently enrolled in the school are given first priority, but an application must be submitted through our website by 8th January for children joining junior infants. Please visit https://www.ketns.ie/admissions/ to complete an application.
