Halloween Celebration and One Day Together

As usual, children are invited to dress up on Friday, 26th October.  We’d kind ask no weapons or anything resembling a weapon be brought to school.  We will have a disco and some Halloween-inspired events in the classroom.  It is also One Day Together, the annual fundraiser for Educate Together.  Families are invited to make a €2 donation on Friday in aid of the ongoing work of Educate Together to support existing schools and establish new ones.  A collection box will be in the office if you wish to contribute.  Please note, it will be a normal dismissal and athletics will take place as normal that afternoon.

School Closure

The school will be closed from Monday, 29th October through Friday, 2nd November for mid-term break.  The school will re-open on Monday, 5th November.  Afterschool @ KETNS will be hosting a 4-day camp at the school during the Mid-term Break.  Please speak to Carmelita or Jenni for further details or to book a place.

Supervision in the Morning

A reminder that supervision is provided from 8.00 for those in Breakfast Club and 8.40 for other children.  We are unable to provide supervision early than these times and would ask parents not to leave their children unattended at the school before these times.  Thanks for your cooperation.

Walking Wednesdays

A Walking Bus went from Clybaun Hotel to the school this past Wednesday as part of a Mindful Commute programme.  On an ongoing bases the Parent-Teacher Association will have a Walking Bus from Cappagh Park every Wednesday. It will leave at 8.30.  Please join us for your own health and well-being and for the well-being of our planet.

Parent-Teacher Association AGM

The PTA Annual General Meeting will take place on Wednesday, 7th November at 20.00.  The PTA Committee will be elected that evening and Matt will presen an update on the School Plan.  All are welcome.  The minutes from the last PTA meeting are attached to this newletter.

Baboró

The children had great experiences with Baboró this year, as usual.  Here a few pictures from the theatre and gallery visits.

Visit from Raul Rowe

Paul Rowe, CEO of Educate Together, visited the school on Friday.  This is the 40th birthday of Educate Together, and we were delighted to celebrate this along with the other birthdays this week at our whole-school assembly. He even joined in our Active Friday Disco!

Maths Week

This past week the classes marked Maths Week by completing activities in classes, working on puzzles and thinking games and completing maths trails around the school.

Science Experiment in Junior Infants

Junior Infants, as part of their current theme on the dentist and good dental hygiene, did a science experiment.  They used milk, apple juice, orange juice and water as a control and eggs to test the effects of sugar on our teeth.  After the eggs had been in the liquids, the children used toothbrushes to clean the plaque off the eggs and discussed the importance of limiting sugar and brushing our teeth twice a day.

Spring Fair

The date of the Spring Fair has been changed to the 6th April. This will be our first Spring Fair in the new school building, and we would like to make it really special. So far we have booked some exciting bouncy-castles. All ideas and volunteers offering help and skills will be greatly appreciated.

The Wednesday Walking Bus

To encourage a healthy interest in walking and exercise, parents are asked to drive their children to the Cappagh Park carpark from 8:30am on Wednesday mornings and to walk the children to school from there.  To make it more convenient, two different parents may wish to volunteer each week to walk the assembled children to the school.

Facebook

Parents are invited to join the school’s Facebook page, ‘Knocknacarra ETNS Parents’, where they can find and exchange useful information on upcoming events and activities, information about the school and any information you wish to share.

Official School Opening

No date has yet been set for the planned Official School Opening.

Lend a Hand

Your help and time is needed. If you could add your name to the school volunteer list for a number of jobs that need to be done, your help would be appreciated.
