Parents of Catholic Children in Second Class

Classes to help Catholic children prepare for making their First Holy Communion will be organised shortly.  If you are interested in your child participating, please reply to this email or give your name to Claudia in the office.

Scholastic Book Orders

All families should have received a leaflet to order books from Scholastic for your children.  This is a great way to help your child build interest in reading as well as to support our school as every book that is purchased earns additional books for our school.  The form can be returned with payment to Claudia or you can place an order online using a credit card at  http://schools.scholastic.ie/knocknacarra-etns to place an order using a credit card.  The final date to place an order is Monday, 16th October.

Parking and Car Pooling

Many thanks to everyone who continues to use the car park sensibly.  We’d kindly ask that parents not use spaces marked for other tenants of the building and particularly to not park in a way that obstructs other drivers.  As the car park and surrounding streets are very busy, we’d encourage everyone to drive with extra caution to ensure everyone’s safety.  Because the parking situation is so challenging, many families are looking at organising car pools to reduce the number of cars coming and going from the school.  To help potential car-pooling families find each other, the PTA has decided to post a sign-up sheet on the notice board outside the office.  Anyone interested in looking for other families to car pool with can sign up by giving their name and location of their home.  The school will then help parents make contact with one another.  Sincere thanks to everyone for your patience with this matter.

Barna Woods

We are looking forward to our visit to Barna Woods and Cappagh Park next week. Permission forms will all be given out no later than Monday.  If parents plan to attend, please let your child’s class teacher know.  Please take a close look at the forecast and ensure your child is dressed appropriately.  Feel free to send in a change of shoes and socks and other clothes.  A regular lunch should be brought on Thursday.

Parent-Teacher Association Meeting

Don’t forget to mark your calendars for the  Annual General Meeting for the Parent-Teacher Association on Wednesday, 18th October at 19.30 at the school.

Football

Knocknacarra Football Club is looking for girls under 6 to under 16 to form a new Girls’ Under 16 team.  Please contact Siobhán, a parent in our school, on 0863321233 for information.

School Pictures

A reminder that County Photos will be at school on the morning of Tuesday, 17th October to take individual pictures of all children as well as group photos of each class.

Baboró

Permissions forms for the Baboró performances will be distributed later this week.  The cost for tickets is €6.50, a special price for school shows.  The school will pay transport costs.  We hope each class will be able to visit an exhibition as well as a performance.  Further details will be on the permission letters.

Hurling Visit

It was fantastic to have John Hanbury, member of the All-Ireland Chamption Galway Senior Hurling Team and local GAA club Rahoon-Newcastle visit the school this past week.  It was great to see the Liam MacCarthy Cup and the All-Ireland Minor Hurling Cup, both won by Galway this year.
