Welcome

A sincere welcome to all the families that will be joining us for the first time on Monday, 31st August as we begin our new school year.  Also, a big welcome back to all our returning senior infants and their families. This is the first edition of our newsletter for the year.  In our newsletters you will find out the latest information about the happenings in our school as well as information for the parents and children of our school.  It will arrive in your email box weekly. If you’d like to use a different or additional email address, please inform one of the teachers.

Materials and Books

A reminder that you do not need to buy and books or materials as the school will purchase these for you.  All that is required is a lunch box, a school bag and a coat.  Please be sure to label these with your child’s name.  A friendly reminder to pay the €80 fees if you haven’t already. These fees cover all books, stationery, materials, use of readers, art supplies, photocopying and the Educate Together subscription for the year.  If paying by bank transfer, please be sure to use your child’s name as a reference.

Start-times

Parents may drop off children in the mornings at 8.30.  Supervision will be provided.  The school cannot accept responsibility for children prior to this.  The official start time is at 8.50.  Please endeavour to have your children in school on time each day.  The day will normally end at 13.30, except for our new junior infants who will finish at 12.00 for the first two weeks.

Lunches

A reminder to parents that we are following a Healthy-Eating Policy and asking families to send in healthy, nutritious lunches.  We’d ask families not to send in chocolate, sweets, fizzy drinks and crisps.  We ask the children to pack up any wrappers and waste to take back home for several reasons: a) parents are aware of what their child actual eats, b) the amount of rubbish the school produces is reduced, c) children take responsibility for their lunch rubbish and d) to support our first steps towards becoming a Green School.  It may be a good idea to put in an extra bag for the rubbish.  Also, drink containers that are easy to open and close are best so that bags and lunches stay dry.  For the first two weeks, our new junior infants only require something for the first small break rather than a full lunch.  Thanks for your cooperation!

After-school Care

This year there will be on-site afterschool care available from 13.30 to 18.00.  (For junior infants during the first two school weeks this will be available from 12.00 onwards.)  There are still places available.  You can register your child to attend for the entire week or pay for a number of days per week.  Many thanks to Jenni Hynes who has worked very hard to get this service up and running.  If you are interested, speak to one of the teachers or to Jenni directly.  Details about the after-school clubs that will take place from 13.30 to 14.30 will be available in our next newsletter.

Our Teachers

As most of you know, Áine Ní Chuinneagáin will teacher junior infants this year and Matt will teach senior infants. We are delighted to report that Vivienne Kelly will be returning as a shared resource teacher based in our school.  Two other teachers will be helping us with learning support, and details about these arrangements will be shared when they are confirmed.  Finally, Ann Courtney has been appointed as a special needs assistant in the school.  We’re all looking forward to a great year together!
