Respect Me, Respect You: Meeting for Parents

Many thanks to the parents who attended the consultation session with Dr Siobhán O’Higgins and Catherine Corbett, who are facilitating the project Respect Me, Respect You.  The next step is to begin consulting with 6th Class regarding the programme.

Pride Celebration

Members of the Parent-Teacher Association have been busy preparing for the pride celebration that will take place in the school on Thursday, 4th June (this is a change due to scheduling a school tour).  Children are invited to wear bright colours.  There will be a kindness activity during the day in the halla organised by the PTA.  At 11.00, all parents and community members are welcome to join us for the raising of the pride flag as well as some other surprises!

Children are invited to participate in an art competition related to the theme Different Families, Same Love.  They can use any art media they wish to either celebrate family diversity or what pride means to them.  See this link for some inspiration.  The PTA is sponsoring four €20 Smyths vouchers for the winners.  Entries must be submitted to the office no later than Thursday morning at 9.00.

End-of-Year Events

Firstly, there was an error in the last newsletter.  The family table quiz will take place on Friday, 12th June at 18.30

Secondly, our annual Sports Day will take place on Wednesday, 17th June at Cappagh Park.  We always need a number of parent volunteers on the day, and everyone has a great time being active.  Please visit this link to sign up.

Due to the unavailability of the Knocknacarra Community Centre, we have had to move our End-of-Year Whole School Assembly our end-of-year assembly one day forward to Thursday, 18th June at the Community Centre in Cappagh Park followed by ice cream back at the school.  The assembly will start at 12.30.  Children will walk to and from the Community Centre with staff.  All are most welcome to attend the assembly and enjoy ice cream back at the school.

Cumann na mBunscol

Last week teams from our school participated in Cumann na mBunscol tournaments.  We had one team participate in a camogie blitz, and another team participated in a hurling blitz.  Well done to all!

Tasty Thursdays in 4th Class

4th class have been taking part in an exciting new classroom initiative called Tasty Thursday and it has been a wonderful success so far!  Each Thursday the children bring in a piece of fruit or a vegetable from home to share with the class. The variety has been incredible: from familiar favourites to more unusual plants like figs, fennel, beetroot and apricots, many of which the children had never tried before.  The initiative is part of a broader nutrition education programme running in 4th class this year, focused on encouraging children to eat a wider variety of plants and developing a positive relationship with food from a young age.  The enthusiasm from both the children and their parents has been fantastic and the results have been really encouraging!  A big thank you to all the parents in 4th class who have supported Tasty Thursday so far.
