End-of-Term Assembly
A reminder that we will have a whole-school assembly tomorrow, 19th June at 11.30 at the Knocknacarra Community Centre to mark the end of the academic year. All parents, extended family and friends are welcome to attend. It will last one hour. All children will return to the school with their teachers, and we’ll have ice cream for the children at the school as well as the regular lunch. Children can be collected from school at the usual time.
Early Dismissal
Our final day of the school year is Wednesday, 25th June. We will have an early dismissal with the infants finishing at 11.50 and all other classes at 12.00.
Voluntary Contribution
Tomorrow all families will receive a letter regarding our request for voluntary contributions. Your ongoing support has been invaluable. While we stress this is voluntary, we are grateful for any contribution, large or small. The easiest way to make a contribution is by bank transfer, but you can also use the envelope to make a cash donation and return it to the school. Many thanks for your ongoing generosity!
Meitheal Community Work Party
On Saturday, 28th June families are invited to come to the school from 10.00-13.00 to assist with some simple projects in the school, on the grounds and for the garden areas. Meitheal is the Irish word for a work team, gang, or party and denotes a co-operative labour system where groups of neighbours help each other. At 13.00, lunch will be provided for all volunteers. All are welcome and please consider joining us if you can.
School Expenses and Book Rental
The amount we will be looking for in September for school expenses will remain €35 per child. We use this in addition to the book grant received from the Department of Education to purchase all schoolbooks, copies, stationery, arts and crafts materials, photocopying, the Educate Together annual subscription and 24-hour accident insurance. You can make this payment once the new academic year commences. Early next week we will gather up all the books that were on loan through our book rental programme. Please be sure all materials are back at school.
Hot Lunches Survey
Now that the hot lunches have been in place for over a year, the Parent-Teacher Association would like to survey parents and children. Parents can complete a survey here: https://forms.gle/9QFMRkLHHC8rc8wc8. Thanks in advance for your feedback.
Portfolios
Your child will be bringing home their portfolio this week. This is an excellent chance for you to sit down with your children and discuss all the learning that has taken place this year. For children in Junior Infants, 1st Class, 3rd Class and 5th Class, please return your child’s portfolio to the school by Monday. For children in other classes, you can keep the portfolio at home.
Reports
School reports will be made available through Aladdin. You’ll be able to access your child’s report there. We’ll send out a notice when they are accessible. Please see the attached note regarding interpreting standardised test results as well as the reports in general.
Class Teachers for Next Year
A process is underway regarding recruitment for next year. As soon as possible, most likely in mid-July, we will let everyone know who will be teaching which class next year.
Pupils Leaving the School
Please let us know as soon as possible if your child is not returning to the school for the coming academic year.
Building Works Progress
As you all have observed, significant progress has taken place regarding the modular build. We anticipate the building components will be put in place on Tuesday, and we expect to have a good sense of what the additional learning spaces will be like before we finish next week. Many thanks for everyone’s flexibility during this process.
1st and 2nd Class School Tour
The last school tour took place yesterday with 1st and 2nd Class visiting Brigit’s Garden. They had an enjoyable and active day with a mix of activities related to history, nature and the environment. They also stopped at a great playground on the way back to school.

5th and 6th Class Tours
Fifth and Sixth Class went on separate tours. 5th Class went to Zipit at Lough Key Forest Park where they completed four courses as well as played environmental awareness games in the woods. 6th Class went on a water adventure to West Lake Aqua Park in Killaloe.

Sports Day
Sincere thanks to the many parents who volunteered at Sports Day last week. It ran so smoothly because of the volunteers’ assistance. We had a great day, and everyone seemed to enjoy the range of activities. The top three teams for total scores were:
- First Place – Team 9
- Second Place – Team 1
- Third Place – Team 15
More pictures from the day are available on our website.
