Upcoming Dates
On Thursday, 28th May we will make another excursion, first visiting Westside Library and then going to Silver Strand.
We will have a second round of parent-teacher meetings, but this time the children will be involved in part of these meetings by sharing their portfolio and demonstrating their learning. Parents will also get a chance to meet with a teacher briefly. These meetings will take place over three days, 8th-10th June. A sign-up sheet will be posted.
The school tour has been scheduled for 16th June. We will be visiting Loughwell Farm. While we know many of the children have visited before, we will have a bilingual (English and Irish) tour and a variety of other activities for the class to enjoy. The cost for the tour will be €15.
Show and Tell
We are doing another round of show and tell. This time the theme is a favourite book. It can be one brought from home or one from the school library. Each child will talk about why they like the book and any other details. We’ll read the book to the class if it is relatively short or a few pages if it is longer. A timetable will be posted by the school entrance.
BIAP Testing
We will be administering the Belfield Infant Assessment Protocol (BIAP) starting next week. This is a comprehensive assessment tool used widely in primary schools across Ireland. Part of the assessment requires parents to complete a questionnaire. The assessment booklet will be sent home on Monday. Please return the booklets no later than Thursday, 14th May.
Farewell to Ursula
We bid farewell to Ursula Comer, who has been on work placement from Sligo IT for several months. The children and staff all thanked her for her help and involvement in the school, and we wish her well with her future career!
Homework Folders
Please continue practising the pink sight words to prepare for our second reader. The reader will be sent home later this week. Also, some simple written homework related to the Stay Safe programme will be going home over the next few weeks.
Any Carpentry Skills?
After several discussions as a class of what they’d like in the school yard, a small playhouse was purchased. We could use some help putting it together, especially if any parents have carpentry skills. Please let the teachers know if you can lend a hand.
