Maths Investigation
During maths this week we looked at sorting things that roll and don’t roll. We tested various items and discussed what attributes they have in common. We even compared which objects roll faster and came up with reasons why certain objects were the winners of the races.
Mid-term Break
School will be closed on Thursday, 19th and Friday, 20th February for the mid-term break.
A Big Welcome to Ursula
If you haven’t already heard, we have a student with us, Ursula Comer. She is studying Early Childhood Care and Education at Sligo IT and will be with us for the next few weeks.
Book Orders
All book orders that were distributed at the beginning of January must be returned by Friday, 6th February. If anyone would like a second copy, we have some extras.
We started painting a giant mural of our school building as part of our study of the local environment.
Healthy Eating
We had lessons this week, in both English and Irish, about bia folláin (healthy food). We learned about different foods and categorised them in the following groups: everyday foods, sometimes foods and special treats. Each child is making a Leabhar Bia (Food Book) that shows different types of food. A website with healthy suggestions for lunches is http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/healthy-lunches-for-kids.
Gaeilge
We learned a vocabulary for lunch and dinner foods.
lón (loan) – lunch dinnéar (jin-air) – dinner
sicín (shi-keen) – chicken prátaí (prah-tee) – potatoes
cairéid (cuh-rage) – carrots píseanna (pee-shuh-nuh) – peas
ceapaire (cyap-uh-ruh) – sandwich úll (ool) – apple
oráiste (uh-rawsh-tuh) – orange
