The First Week
We’re delighted with how well the school year has started. Our new junior infants have been settling in and getting to know one another. The senior infants had a great time harvesting the potatoes, lettuce and carrots they planted last year. We ate lots of carrots this week and shared them with the juniors at our first whole-school assembly on Friday. After a lengthy voting process, the senior infants decided to make roasted potatoes, which everyone greatly enjoyed.
Materials and Books
Many thanks to the vast majority of parents who have paid the fees for the current school year. A friendly reminder to pay the €80 fees if you haven’t already. Three payments were received into the school account, but we are unable to identify the source. If you paid by bank transfer, you might wish to clarify that we have accounted for the payment.
Parental Involvement
We hope to begin a rota of parent volunteers who will be free to support reading with the seniors as well as Aistear time (structured play) with both classes. Once our routines are established and the timetables for our learning support are finalised, we’ll post a sign-up sheet for the two classes on the notice board near the senior infants’ coat hooks.
Lunches
A reminder to parents that we are following a Healthy-Eating Policy and asking families to send in healthy, nutritious lunches. We like to follow the practice of having Fruit First. Please consider sending in a piece of fruit for the first break. Thanks for your cooperation!
After-school Care
There are still places available in the on-site afterschool care available from 13.30 to 18.00. (For junior infants during the coming week this will be available from 12.00 onwards.) If you are interested, speak to one of the teachers or to Jenni directly.
After-school Clubs
Details about the after-school clubs that will take place from 13.30 to 14.30 have not been finalised. Provisionally it looks like there will be Visual Arts on Tuesdays and Capoeria on Thursdays. There may also be music and movement, basketball and yoga. As soon as the arrangements are complete we will inform parents about the options available.
Scholastic Book Orders
On Monday we will distribute Scholastic Book Orders to all families. This is a great way to start building a reading library for your child. Our school also benefits as we earn credits with each purchase towards books for our school community. Please ensure they are returned by Monday, 21st September if you wish to order anything.
