A New School Year

Welcome back everyone to a new school year!  We are particularly delighted to welcome our new junior infants as well as children new to the school who have joined other classes.  A reminder that the junior infants will begin full days on Monday, 11th, finishing at 13.30.

Breakfast Club

The breakfast club is up and running.  It is available from 8.00 every morning to every child enrolled in the school at a cost of €3 per day.  No prior registration is required.

Afterschool Clubs

Sign-up sheets are posted on the notice board outside the office for the afterschool clubs on offer this term.  Details for these activities are below.  They will all begin next week.  The activities take place one hour after the school day finishes and last for one hour.  The cost for the sporting activities is €50 for the term (11 sessions).  The arts and crafts club costs €66 for the term (11 sessions, including materials).  This can be paid directly to the club organisers, usually at the end of the first session.

We have two new activities starting this term.  After Sunday’s fantastic All-Ireland Hurling Final, we’re delighted to say we have organised a new session with Stephen Cunningham, a primary school teacher and trained GAA coach, to develop skills for hurling and Gaelic football on Thursdays for children in 1st and 2nd class.

On Mondays, Matt will lead an athletics and basketball skills session with the infants.  Also, for the older classes, Matt and Vivienne will lead a club to develop running and other athletic skills on Wednesdays.

Please note, for all the sports clubs, children must wear runners and appropriate clothing.

A child in junior infants has a severe nut allergy.  Therefore, we would kindly ask that parents not send nuts in school lunches.  Many thanks for your cooperation with this important matter.

Meeting for Parents of Children Preparing for the Sacraments in Knocknacarra

Father Tadhg, parish priest for Knocknacarra, is inviting parents of 2nd class children to attend a meeting related to organising the participation of Catholic children from all schools in the parish, especially those who intend to prepare for the Sacraments.  The meeting will take place on 14th September at 20.00 at St John the Apostle Church.  Regarding those families in second class who are interested in having their children prepare for their first Holy Communion, information will follow soon.

Congratulations!

Rushil, in Second Class, recently was a prize winner in a Lego competition at Westside Library.  He was awarded a €35 gift card, which was presented to him by Councillor Mike Cubbard.

Hospice Coffee Morning

The school will host a coffee morning on Thursday, 14th September from 10.00-12.00 to raise funds for Galway Hospice.  All are welcome!  Parents are invited to bake something for the occasion and meet other parents.
