Survey for Parents

The Department of Education and Youth have created a survey for all parents of children in primary schools or who will enter primary schools in the coming years.  The survey is related to school choice to support the potential transfer of school patronage.  All parents are encouraged to complete the short survey.  Although our school is multidenominational already, it is important that parents “have their say” to demonstrate strong interest in multidenominational and equality-based national schools.  The survey has just three questions is available using this link: www.gov.ie/en/department-of-education/campaigns/primary-school-survey/

World Children’s Day

Last week our work towards becoming a UNICEF Child Rights School was assessed, and we are pleased to announce that we have received the Gold Award, signifying the completion of a three-year process of endeavouring to promote pupil voice and to help the children in our school to learn about their rights.  Thursday, 20th November is World Children’s Day, and we look forward to welcoming visitors from UNICEF to the school to present the Gold Award.  We will have special activities and lessons that day about children rights organised by the Student Council and the Learn Together Committee.  Everyone is asked to wear blue for the occasion, and we look forward to celebrating this achievement.

Friday was a busy day at the school with various focus groups working with theatre artists and philosophers from the University of Galway.  4th and 6th Class participated in discussions related to the performance of “The Little Prince” which they attended during the Baboró Festival.  1st Class engaged in a conversation to help guide the development of a new theatrical work created by Branar.

Cycle Right Training

6th Class has been participating in Cycle Right Training to help them learn cycle safety skills.  Sincere thanks to Galway City Council, An Taisce and the voluntary contributions of families in the school that have sponsored these valuable lessons.

Science Quiz

Two teams from our school participate in the annual Primary School Science Quiz at Coláiste Muire Máthair.  The two teams performed very well with one team placing 3rd and the other 14th out of 40 teams!

Minister’s Visit

On Thursday, the Minister for Special Education Michael Moynihan and Deputy John Connolly visited the school briefly to view our new autism and learning support classrooms.  Though it was a quick visit, we look forward to inviting the Minister to return to the school when we have completed further developments including completing the sensory spaces, a sensory garden, an outdoor classroom and a nurture room.
