Bank Holiday and School Closure
The school will be closed for the June Bank Holiday on 1st June. The school will be open on Tuesday, 2nd June. The school will be closed on Wednesday, 3rd June to facilitate professional development for staff related to the Primary Curriculum Framework.
Respect Me, Respect You: Meeting for Parents

Please join us for an information and consultation session for our new programme we are developing related to consent and building positive relationships. Dr Siobhán O’Higgins and Catherine Corbett, who are facilitating the project, will be present to talk with parents about the aims and seek their feedback. The meeting will take place at the school on Monday, 25th May at 19.00. We’ll have tea, coffee, biscuits and most importantly an important conversation. All parents are most welcome!
End-of-Year Events
There are a few events for families coming up in June, and this is advanced notice so that parents are able to join us for them.
Firstly, the family table quiz will take place on Friday, 12th June at 18.30.
Secondly, our annual Sports Day will take place on Wednesday, 17th June at Cappagh Park. We always need a number of parent volunteers on the day, and everyone has a great time being active.
We will have our End-of-Year Whole School Assembly on Friday, 19th June at the Community Centre in Cappagh Park followed by ice cream back at the school. More details will follow.
Active Week
Many thanks to the Active School Committee who facilitated such an amazing Active School Week. There were so many activities! In the mornings, we had some special Active Line activities including the Macarena, a human ladder activity and a very competitive hoola hoop chain race between the staff and the various classes. We had a soccer penalty shoot-out on Monday, an obstacle course on Wednesday and basketball lessons with Niall on Thursday just to name a few of the things we did. There was an exciting active trail organised where children found clues around the school grounds about various ways the staff members stay active, and the children did their best to figure out which clue was about which staff member. The boys’ Gaelic football team competed in a blitz, and all the classes continued their swimming lessons. On Friday we had our annual Bike Disco, co-organised with the Green School Committee, and it was great to see so many participants! That afternoon we had a very exciting series of basketball matches between the staff and 6th Class. Look out for more photos and details on our website soon!
As we wrap up another year and prepare to apply for the renewal of our Active Flag, there is a short survey for parents.

6th Class Play – The Tempest
Congratulations to 6th Class who presented The Tempest this week in three amazing performances. They continued our tradition of presenting a Shakespeare play using the original text, quite a feat for their age. Their performance incorporated a Queen soundtrack and lots of glam rock costumes. Bravo!

French Penpal Visitors
We continued our collaboration with a French school this year, Saint Jean Baptiste de la Salle in Nîmes, by exchanging letters as pen pals in French and English and welcoming them to Ireland. On Monday, everyone met in Cong. On Tuesday, it was our pleasure to welcome them to our school where dances were shared and lots of interaction. Many thanks to Lise, who taught the French lessons earlier this year to 5th and 6th Class through the Languages Connect programme, who assisted with their visit.

City Sports
This week 28 children represented our school at the annual City Sports Competition in Dangan. It was a wet day, but everyone managed to enjoy the day and to run some fantastic races. Well done to all our participants!
