Distance Learning and a Return to the School Building
We hope you all had a relaxing, if brief, mid-term break. Distance learning has resumed this week. As soon as announcements are made officially regarding the reopening of the school, we will be communicate the plans for returning to the school building.
Parent-Teacher Association Meeting
The Parent-Teacher Association will meet this Wednesday (24th February) at 19.00. The focus will be organising an online raffle as a fundraiser for the school. We will discuss various projects going on in the school as well as the issues raised at the last meeting. We will also look at reviewing the school’s Healthy Eating Policy as well as beginning to draft a Parental Involvement Policy and a Relationships and Sexuality Education (RSE) Policy.
Talented Photographers
Congratulations to three of our pupils whose photography skills have been recognised. Galway City Council organised a Children’s Nature Photography Competition. Rhys, Enya and Danu’s photography have been chosen for display in the Eyre Square Shopping Centre. Their photos are shown below. The photo Rhys took of a black-headed gull gliding on the surface of Rusheen Bay was awarded First Prize. Congratulations! To read more about the competition read last week’s Galway Advertiser or visit this link.
Green Schools
We are nearly ready to apply for our first Green Flag after several years of work. Our last step is to develop a short motto. The theme of the flag is litter and waste. While the Green School Committee had chosen a longer motto sometime back, it is perhaps too long. So instead we’re going to have a competition. We’re looking for children to either design a logo for our Green School programme and/or write a short motto or jingle to show our commitment to reducing waste and recycling. Please get your entries to Matt by early next week. We’ll then look at the entries, and the school community will choose a winning logo and winning motto.
Reading Books or Materials
The school will be open on Thursday from 10.30-12.30 to exchange books or get stationery.
Whole-School Assembly
Our next whole-school assembly will take place on Friday. It is going to be a talent show where we celebrate all our unique talents and skills. If your child has any special skill they’d be willing to share, please let me know. This could be a magic trick, a song, storytelling, dancing, reciting a poem, juggling, etc. The sky is the limit. We’ll try to limit each performer to about 1 minute.
Special Online Learning Sessions
The following special online sessions will take this week. There will be a music session on Tuesday at 13.30 directed towards Junior and Senior Infants, though others are welcome too.
There will be another games session open to all but directed particularly at First to Third Class on Wednesday at 13.30.
Finally, the Kahoot for 4th and 5th class will return this week. Details will be posted in Google Classroom.
