Wellbeing Survey for Parents

As part of our new School Self-Evaluation Process, we will be looking at wellbeing.  Parents are asked to complete a survey to share their perspectives.  This is a survey at: https://forms.gle/wbvAT63yZ391N3B58.  It should take you approximately 5-8 minutes to complete, and it would be great to get as many viewpoints as possible.  Thanks!

Galway Science and Technology Festival

The annual Galway Science and Technology Festival takes place at the University of Galway on Sunday, 12th November.  Full details are available at www.galwayscience.ie.

Parent-Teacher Meetings

Parent-Teacher Meetings will take place in the school during the last week of November.  Parents will be able to book appointment times using Aladdin Connect starting at the end of the week, with families with siblings given the first opportunity from Thursday and everyone else from Monday onwards.

Fancy Dress and One Day Together

All the classes had a great celebration before the mid-term break showing off fantastic costumes.  Many thanks as well to everyone who contributed to the One Day Together collection to support the work of the Educate Together National Office.

Head Lice Checks

Prior to the break, the school was informed of a case of headlice.  It is important that parents complete regularly checks, at least weekly, and to treat lice if found.  If you have questions or need advice, contact Matt in confidence.

Family Table Quiz

The Parent-Teacher Association is looking forward to hosting a free, family-friendly table quiz on Friday, 17th November from 18.30-20.00.  This will be a fun event for tables of up to 5 participants with teams of children and adults competing together (families can combine to create teams and this can be organized on the night).  Families can bring snacks to share, and there will be small prizes for the winners.  If you’d like to get involved in the organization of the event, please reply to this email.  We hope it will be a fun evening for our school community.

Irish Language Classes for Parents

Free Irish language classes will be offered for parents at drop-off time (8.50 to 9.30) on Wednesdays for parents who have a bit of experience with Irish previously and on Fridays for absolute beginners.  These classes will be taught by Matt starting the 15th November onwards. They will take place in the staff room.  Fáilte roimh chách! (Everyone is welcome!)

Open Evening

We will be having an Open Evening for prospective families to visit the school on Thursday, 23rd November from 18.30 to 19.30.  In addition to having 6th Class children acting as School Ambassadors and some staff on hand to answer questions, it is great to have current parents attending as well.  All are welcome to the event so please spread the word to friends and neighbours.  Anyone interested in applying for a place in the school should visit the school website (www.ketns.ie/admissions).

KETNS Kindness Collection

The KETNS Kindness Collection is returning this year. We are starting the collection earlier so the food will be able to be distributed during the school closure to ensure that children will not go hungry during the break. The cost-of-living crisis has hit home for many people this year, and if you are able to help it would be greatly appreciated. It was suggested that we break the weeks down by what products are needed, but you can donate whatever or whenever you can and there is no pressure to do so!  Below is a list of what are suggested donations, the idea is to bring one item a week or whatever you can afford.

Week 1 Nov 6-10Bags Week – bags of pasta, rice, lentils, etc.
Week 2 Nov 13-17Tins Week – tins of peas, corn, rice, fruit, beans, etc.
Week 3 Nov 20-24Boxes Week –Cornflakes, Weetabix, crackers, etc.
Week 4 Nov 27-30Treats and Toiletries Week – any treats such as biscuits, sweets or chocolate and any toiletries including soap, feminine hygiene products, nappies, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrushes, etc.
The last date for donations is Thursday, 30th November.
