Teddy Bear Hospital

We’re very fortunate to be able to participate in the Teddy Bear Hospital, an annual event at NUI, Galway.  The event is organised by the Sláinte Society, the NUI Galway branch of the International Federation of Medical Students Associations, and up to 200 medical and science students will diagnose and treat the teddy bears. In the process, they hope to help children feel more comfortable around doctors and hospitals. Over the years, children have come along with teddy bears suffering from an imaginative range of sore ears, sick tummies and all kinds of others weird and wonderful ailments.  Our time slot has been allocated for this Friday, 23rd January at 13.00.  We will leave school by bus at 12.30, but we will not be back at school by the usual time.  Therefore, parents next Friday will collect children an hour later than normal, at 14.30.  We hope this doesn’t inconvenience anyone.  Every child needs a teddy or soft toy to bring to the clinic.  We’ll have a couple spare teddies on hand just in case.  Permission forms will be distributed on Monday.

Immunisations

A reminder to everyone that the community medical doctor and school public health nurse will be visiting the school on Monday, 26th January to administer vaccinations.  If you haven’t already, please return the form to us as soon as possible.  We’d kindly ask parents to return the forms in all circumstances.  Please feel free to speak to any of the teachers if you have any questions.

New Letters

New letters as well as sight words that don’t follow phonetic rules will be added to the letter pockets to be reviewed at home.  We are seeing the benefits of the regular practice at home.  Be sure the letters come back to school each day.
