Aistear

Aistear, meaning “journey” in Irish, is the Early Childhood Curriculum Framework.  Starting next week, we will have a new format for our structured play, and this will continue for the rest of the year.  Children will visit each centre once per week.  The different areas will include such activities as “junk art”, imaginative play, dough/clay (many thanks to Elizabeth who made very nice playdough for us!), sensory play and games with rules.  Our first theme will be Home.  Please let us know if you have anything that you could loan/give to us for this centre (i.e. an old phone, old pots/pans/utensils, door mat, etc.).

Open House

We will be having an Open House for the school on Thursday, 16th October.  All current families and those families interested in enrolling children for future years are most welcome to attend this celebratory event from 18.00-19.00.  Please spread the word!

Hello in Many Languages

We have a display of different ways of saying hello in other languages.  We’d like to be sure all languages spoken by the families of our school are present.  Please let us know the languages you speak so we can add them to the display.

Scissors

We’ve started to practice cutting skills.  It might be helpful to have a pair of child-friendly scissors at home and to encourage your child to cut up paper ready to be recycled.

An Ghaeilge

Here’s a simple phrase to practice on your way to school!

Tá mé ag dul ar scoil. (Tah may egg dull air skull) – I am going to school.

This Week’s Letter Sound

This week we have been focusing on the letter “t”.  A reminder to parents that we’re referring to the letters by their sound rather than their name and looking at the lower-case letters first.  You’re probably very familiar with the little songs for each letter sound by now!
