St Patrick’s Day Holiday

A reminder that the school will be closed next week for the St Patrick’s Holiday on Monday 17th and Tuesday 18th March.

Parent-Teacher Assosication Meetings

The next meeting of the Parent-Teacher Association will be on Monday, 24th March at 9.00 in the staff room.  All parents are welcome.  We’ll be busy making preparations for the Spring Fair.  An online meeting will take place Thursday, 27th March at 18.30.

Talent Show

We had a super talent show that was very well-attended and featured the talents of many members of our school community.  From singing to sports to programming to magic, the many talents in our school community were on full display!  Thanks to everyone who contributed to making it a fun event.

Seeking Accommodation

A student teacher will be coming from Spain to complete an internship in the school from 24th March through 23rd May.  He is looking for accommodation to rent, ideally within walking distance or with public transport to the school.  A single room with access to a kitchen and bathroom is all that is required.  Rent will be paid by the student as set by the host.  If anyone is a position to provide such accommodation, please reply to this email.

Engineers’ Week

Many activities were completed last week for Engineers’ Week.  The STEM Committee hosted a structure-building activity for all the children in the school.  They used pasta and marshmallows or playdough to make complex designs.

First Class had a visit from Marc who works for Medtronic.  He talked about his work as an engineer who develops medical devices, particularly heart valves.

Seachtain na Gaeilge

Tá Seachtain na Gaeilge ar siúl agus tá súil agam go bhfuil gach duine (páistí, múinteoirí agus tuismitheoirí) ag baint úsáid as a gcuid Gaeilge, go háiritihe ar maidin ag an geata agus ag deireadh an lae.  Beidh ghníomhaíochtaí speisialta ar siúl chomh maith.  Tá fáilte roimh gach duine chun freastail ar na ranganna do thuismitheoirí gach Aoine ar a naoi sa seomra foirne.

This week is Irish Language Week and we hope everyone (children, teachers and parents) are using their Irish, particularly in the morning at the gate and at the end of the day.  Special activities will be taking place.  All are welcome to attend the classes for parents that take place every Friday morning at 9.00 in the staff room.

Credit Union Quiz

On Sunday, our senior trivia team represented the school at the Chapter Credit Union Quiz.  It was a very exciting event as the children came from behind to finish the quiz tied for third place.  After the tie-breaker round, we were delighted that they were declared the runners-up and now have earned the chance to compete in the national competition in April.  This is an amazing achievement, and we are so pleased that this is the third year in a row that a team from our school will be competing in the national competition!

Educate Together Chess Tournament

A group of children represented our school at the 2nd Annual John Farrell Chess Tournament that involves all the Educate Together schools in Connacht.  The children played very well and enjoyed the friendly competition that was held at Claregalway Educate Together.

World Book Day

Many of the classes held fantastic books celebrations and dressed up to mark World Book Day last Thursday.  It was a great occasion to talk about books and celebrate reading.
