Spring Fair

Sincere thanks to everyone who made the Spring Fair on Saturday such a great success.  The spirit of our school was very evident as all the parent volunteers pulled together to make an enjoyable day for everyone.  It was also great to see many of the children of the school demonstrating their excellent entrepreneurship skills, and a special thank you to the children who decided to donate all their proceeds from their stalls to the school.  We raised just under €6000 for the school, which matches the amount raised over the last two years.  More importantly, for the children (and adults too!), the day was enjoyable and demonstrated so clearly our sense of community.  Sincere gratitude to everyone who volunteered on the day, made special donations to support the fair and our raffle prize donors.  Special thanks to the Clare, the Parent-Teacher Association Chairperson, and the Committee members who did all the advance planning and organisation.

Bike Week

Last week we had a number of activities to support Bike Week.  As there were so many other events in the school, we have had to postpone some things, so it has now become Bike Fortnight!  Our final event will be the Bike Disco tomorrow (Wednesday, 22nd May).  All children with a bike or other wheeled transport and a helmet are invited to participate.

Parking

A gentle reminder that we kindly ask parents not to park in either of our neighbouring housing estates, particularly at the top of the road opposite any driveways.  Thanks for your continued cooperation in making the drop-off and collection smooth and safe.

6th Class Play

Congratulations to 6th Class for their fantastic performance of Twelfth Night by Shakespeare last week.  They really accepted the formidable challenge, and everyone greatly admired and enjoyed their performances.  Bravo!  More photos are on our website.

Cumann na mBunscol

We were delighted to participate for the first time in the official Cumann na mBunscol Boy’s Gaelic Football Tournament.  Our team played very well, finishing in the middle of their group with 2 wins and 2 losses.  Thanks to Fionnuala for being the bainisteoir na foirne (team manager), and we’re grateful for the coaching for all classes this year from Mark and Salthill-Knocknacarra GAA Club.  We hope to participate in a similar event with our girls’ team before the end of the year.

Choir Event

The school choir participated in the inaugural Féile Cór na Gaillimhe, an event for school choirs that was organised by our school.  We were delighted that three other schools joined us for a day of singing.  Mark Duley, of St Nicholas Collegiate Church’s Schola Cantorum, led a two-hour workshop with the 180 children who participated.  In the afternoon, each choir sang two of their own pieces and then came together to sing two more.  We hope to build on the success of the first event in the coming years.
