A Busy Year
We hope everyone is enjoying their summer break so far. 2022-2023 was a very busy and dynamic year in the life of our school. Sincere thanks to the staff members, parents and children for an amazing year. In addition to the ordinary and incredible day-to-day teaching and learning in the school, a number of extraordinary things were achieved this year.
We introduced student committee meetings on a regular basis that helped strengthen our democratic ethos. We received our second Green Flag, our second Active Flag, our Gaelbhratach and the Bronze Award as a Child Rights School.
We had a very successful Open Evening led by our inaugural School Ambassadors from 6th Class.
A range of afterschool opportunities included visual art, evasion games, soccer, superhero training choir, podcasting, sewing, mindfulness and wellbeing, basketball and lego.
Our quiz team won the National Credit Union Quiz Competition and the first Connaught Educate Together Quiz.
We had a highly successful soccer league for the senior yard. Children participated in a range of competitions with our new sports kits including FAI 5-a-side, a hurling blitz and City Sports.
We had great success and recognition for three children in the Texaco Art Competition
There was inspiring engagement on several occasions with the University of Galway related to philosophy, human rights, brain science, healthy heroes and the teddy bear hospital.
Artist-in-residence projects were organised with Tatiana, Dee, Críona and Paul.
We completed our maths school self-evaluation process and the revision of the Maths Curriculum Plan. A new self-evaluation focus on handwriting and social manners was effective. A review of the English Plan was undertaken. We also began an ethos self-evaluation process.
A long consultation process to determine a new five-year school plan was completed.
Considerable work was done to improve the courtyards in the school by a group of volunteers.
Over the year, we facilitated charitable fundraising through a pyjama day, Halloween dress-up, the choir and jazzy jumper day, and the school
contributed more than €1200 to charities.
We had a successful Spring Fair and a great Sports Day thanks to fantastic parental involvement.
Farewell Frances
We wish Frances well as she retires. Frances has been an SNA in our school for six years and worked in the same capacity in other schools for a number of years.
We are grateful for her many contributions to our young school community and her kind and caring nature she demonstrated with all the children she worked with. Best wishes Frances!
