St Patrick’s Day
The school will be closed for the St Patrick’s Day Bank Holiday on Friday, 17th March.
PTA Meeting
The minutes from the last PTA meeting are included at the end of this newsletter. The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, 8th March at the school at 19.00.
Scholastic Book Club
Tomorrow is the deadline to return book orders. You can place an order online at http://school.scholastic.ie/knocknacarra-etns. The orders will be sent tomorrow evening and should arrive at the school approximately a week from then.
World Book Day
Before the end of the week, every child will receive a voucher for World Book Day in the homework folders. They can be exchanged for certain books are can be used to save €1.50 off any book. They can be used at any book shop.
Visit to B&Q
The Junior and Senior Infants had a fantastic visit to B&Q. We learned how they mix paint and everyone planted a seed. Many thanks to the B&Q staff who arranged such a great visit.
Parent-Teacher Association Meeting on 15th February 2017

Garda Vetting Child Protection Policy
- The vetting process for new teachers and participating parents is faster now.
Visiting Teachers
- The school is looking at weekly extra-curricular activities e.g. fitness, pottery, wood-turning (as Gaeilge) and soccer
St. Patrick’s Day Parade
- It was felt that the school is not yet prepared to participate in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade for 2017.
- We hope to have a presence of which we can be proud in the parade by 2018.
Spring Fair
- Scheduled for Saturday, 29th April
- We discussed allotting each representative different places/businesses to visit to request prizes for the Spring Fair.
- We discussed posting in the newsletter the suggestion that parents are welcome to participate in helping to acquire prizes for the Spring Fair.
- We will create sign-up sheets for the parents from each class to volunteer their time/ideas to make our Spring Day great.
- Volunteers for specific tasks:
- Matt and Maggie have volunteered to organise the workshops.
- Diana and Vivienne have volunteered to organise the café.
- Clare and Ruth will organise the bouncy castle.
- Dan will work on the P.R.
- Karolina Sexton will organise the vendors.
- Raffle tickets will be sent home to sell to family and friends.
- Raffle Prizes: Where to go to get raffle prizes was discussed.
- It was proposed that it would be advantageous to expand the Fair out into the Car Park to allow more space for the activities. This may be an option.
Hoodie Tops
- It was suggested that a school hoodie top could be created for the children if there is interest.
