Parent-Teacher Association Meeting on 18th October 2017

Present: Diana (Chairperson), Gosia, Clare, Karolina, Matt, Catherine, Celine, Natasha, Carrie, Olga, Aga, Cinzia, José, Siobhan

Apologies: Vivienne, Maggie, Daniel, Karen
Diana chaired the meeting.

We welcomed some new parents to the committee: Natasha, Olga, Aga, Cynthia, Jose, Siobhan.  We’d like to let everyone know that all parents are welcome to come to the PTA Meetings and that we look forward to seeing more parents at future meetings.

1. Activities for the Coming Academic Year – The parents of the committee were asked to discuss among themselves what they would like to see happening in the year ahead.

There were lots of ideas from each group:

  • An International Day (From a simple to perhaps a more elaborate affair)
  • Car Boot Sale
  • Book or Toy Exchange
  • Visiting a Retirement Home or vice versa
  • A specially trained school dog that a family would have to agree to host/adopt
  • More Involvement of the Parents in the School
  • Charity – Creating an awareness in our children for those in need, especially the homeless.
    • We should pick a charity that we would like to help such as St. Vincent de Paul or COPE.
    • Karolina Sexton has offered the use of her Sunday stall to host a charity event.
  • More Outings for the Children, both educational and fun:
    • To the Museum
    • Birdwatching at Rusheen Bay
    • Teddy Bear Hospital
  • More Workshops in Science – There is a keen interest.

3. Educate Together Secondary Level Presentation – Diana made a presentation discussing our upcoming bid to acquire a secondary school. We need to create more awareness to encourage support prior to our application to the Dept. of Education.

4. Patrick’s Day Parade – There was talk of entering our school into the parade, but it has been decided that it would be best to wait a few years until our kids are older and that we have more classes to be involved. When we finally do it, we want to put in a big effort and do it right.

5. New Building – There is no news regarding our move to a new school yet.

6. Next Meeting – The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, 8th November at 19.30 to choose officers.
