Family Table Quiz

We look forward to our Family Table Quiz hosted by the Parent-Teacher Association this Friday, 22nd November. We’ll get started 18.30. All families are welcome. We’ll have teams of 4 or 5 people, and we will help put together teams so everyone can participate. There is no charge to participate. We will have prizes, and everyone is encouraged to bring a snack to share.
Open Evening
A reminder that we will have an Open Evening on Thursday, 28th November from 18.30 to 19.30 for prospective parents. The event is informal, with our School Ambassadors providing school tours and answering questions. It would be great if a few current parents can come along to speak to the visitors. Please pass this information on to your friends and neighbours. Applications for admission to the school can be completed via our website: www.ketns.ie/admissions.

Science Week
It has been a very busy Science Week with lots of different activities. Each class did lots of fun science invesigations.

We also had many visitors and outings, and thanks to the Galway Science and Technology Festival for sponsoring many of the activities as well as parents’ continued voluntary contribtuions which funded the transport costs.
Mark, a parent in our school who works at Medtronic, came in to 3rd Class to teach about the work he does related to heart valves and some amazing and suprising characteristics of biomaterials used for medical devices.
We had Tom Cuffe visit 4th and 5th Class who led an origami workshop. He introduded the art of Japanese paper folding and showed its connections to art, engineering and nature.
3rd and 6th Class visited the School of Engineering at the University to build a giant suspension bridge as well as learn about some the research projects in civil engineering.

Eight children represented our school at the Fr Manning Primary Science Quiz and Coláiste Muire Máthair. One team tied for 4th Place, narrowly missing out a medal place by just one question. Our second team tied for 13th Place, with a total of 42 teams participating.
