Swimming for First Class
A reminder to parents of children in First Class that our first swimming lesson will take place on this Thursday, 4th May.
DEAR
On Friday, the entire school participated in the National Drop Everything and Read (DEAR) Challenge. All the children and staff members of the school took out a book and read for 15 minutes at 12.00 noon to mark the occasion.
Ceachtanna Speisialta (Special Lessons)
Tá na páistí i rang a haon ag baint an-taitneamh agus an-eolas as an gceardlann adhmaid le Mairtín Ó Coisdealdha. Tá a gcláir arán go hálainn ar fad. Beidh críochnaithe acu go luath agus tógfaidh siad a gcláir abhaile ansin. Beidh Micheál Gargan Curtin ag teacht go dtí an scoil ar feadh trí lá chun ceachtanna drámaíochta dátheangacha a dhéanamh le na páistí i ngach rang. Níos déanaí i Mí Meitheamh beidh Miss Laurie ag teacht go dtí an scoil chun ceachtanna dámhsa a dhéanamh le na páistí.
The children in First Class are enjoying and learning a lot (both Irish and very practical skills) from the woodworking workshop with Máirtín Ó Coisdealbha. Their bread boards are beautiful. They will be finished soon and they will take them home soon. Micheál Gargan Curtin will be coming to the school for three days later this month to do bilingual (Irish and English) drama lessons with all the classes. Miss Laurie will be coming to the school in June to do dance workshops with the children. This has all been made possible by the fundraising efforts of the Parent-Teacher Association.
Scholastic Book Club
Leaflets for the Scholastic Book Club will be placed in homework folders this week. This will be the last opportunity to purchase books this academic year. The date for return of the paper orders will be 11th May. You can also order online with a credit card at http://schools.scholastic.ie/knocknacarra-etns.
Visitor from Connemara National Park
First Class greatly enjoyed a visit from Carol who works at Connemara National Park. They learned about mammals living in Connemara. Visit their classroom to see the fantastic noticeboard as well as the fact books they made about the mammals.
Spring Fair
Sincere thanks to everyone for all their great efforts to make the Spring Fair so successful. It looks like we doubled the fundraising target that had been set. More importantly, it was a great way to introduce our school to the wider community as well as have a fun day with our pupils and their families. Many thanks to all the parents and staff members for all the baking, selling raffle tickets, volunteering on the day in the bouncy castles and café and helping with the clean-up afterwards. Special thanks to the four workshop presenters: Sylvia, Amélie, Miss Laurie and Raven Dance Studio. A big thank you to Dan who coordinated the First Class Fun Fair. Many thanks to the face painters who were kept busy all day. A special thank you to the Parent-Teacher Association Committee who worked so hard in advance to ensure a great day.
